Your privacy on Shortutorial
Last updated October 13, 2026. In short: we collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and you can use every tutorial without an account.
What we collect
If you create an account
- Your username and password. We don't ask for your name or email. Your password is never stored as typed: we keep only a salted, one-way scrambled version (PBKDF2), so even we can't read it.
- Your certifications. Which tutorial quizzes you've passed, your score and when. Your username and certification count appear on the public leaderboard.
- Your comments. Comments you post under a tutorial are public and show your username and when you posted. You can delete your own comments at any time.
- A login cookie named
st_sessthat keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It's only used to know it's you. Logging out deletes it.
For everyone
- Star ratings. When you rate a tutorial, we store the rating with a random ID created in your browser (or your account, if you're signed in) so you can change your rating instead of voting twice.
- Read counts. We count how many times each tutorial is read. To count each device once a day and block spam, we keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for about a day, then delete it.
- Searches. What you type in the search box is sent to our server so the smart search can find the right tutorial. Searches aren't linked to your account, and results are cached so repeat searches don't need to be processed again.
- Spam protection. Sign-ups, logins and ratings are rate-limited using scrambled IP addresses that are deleted after about a day.
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are popular and how long people stay. Google sets its own cookies and collects things like your approximate location, device and browser. You can block it with Google's opt-out add-on or your browser's privacy settings. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
Stored only on your device
Some features remember things in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device: tutorials you've opened (for learning-path progress), your Windows/Mac or iPhone/Android choice, checklists, and drafts in tools like the cover letter builder. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Who processes it
The site runs on Cloudflare, which hosts the pages and database and runs the AI behind smart search. Google provides analytics. We don't sell, rent or share your information with advertisers or anyone else.
Your choices
- You can use every tutorial without an account.
- To delete your account and certifications, email ezrakerney@gmail.com from any address and tell us your username. We'll remove it within 30 days.
- You can block analytics cookies as described above.
Children
Shortutorial isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes and contact
